Will Dissly is an American professional football tight end for the Los Angeles Chargers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Washington Huskies and was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Dissly was recognized as Montana’s Gatorade High School Player of the Year in 2013 and has since built a notable career in professional football, demonstrating his skills on the field as both a receiver and a blocker.

Early Life and Background

Will Dissly was born on July 8, 1996, in Bozeman, Montana. He graduated from Bozeman High School in 2014, where he made a significant impact on the football team. During his senior year, the Bozeman Hawks football team won the state championship. Dissly played on both sides of the ball, recording 57 tackles and 11 receiving touchdowns, which earned him the title of Montana’s Gatorade High School Player of the Year. Initially, he committed to Boise State in December but later followed head coach Chris Petersen to the University of Washington to play for the Washington Huskies.

Path to American Football

Dissly began his college career at the University of Washington, where he transitioned from defensive end to tight end after his sophomore season in 2015. His first reception came against Sacramento State, resulting in a 27-yard touchdown. Although he had limited receptions in his junior year, he made a notable comeback in his senior year with 21 catches in 2017. Most analysts projected him as a blocking tight end, showcasing his versatility on the field.

Early Career (2018–2023)

Will Dissly was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the fourth round (120th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft. He quickly established himself as a reliable target for quarterback Russell Wilson. In his NFL debut during the season opener against the Denver Broncos, Dissly recorded three receptions for 105 yards and scored his first professional touchdown. He continued to impress in his rookie season, but unfortunately, his year was cut short due to a patellar tendon injury.

Breakthrough (2019–2023)

In the 2019 season, Dissly had a standout performance in Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, catching five passes for 50 yards and two touchdowns. He followed this up with another strong performance against the New Orleans Saints, where he caught six passes for 62 yards and a touchdown. However, his season was again marred by injury, as he suffered a torn Achilles in Week 6, leading to a season-ending injury reserve placement.

Notable Works and Milestones

After recovering from his injuries, Dissly signed a three-year contract extension with the Seahawks in March 2022. He had a career-high 34 receptions for 349 yards and three touchdowns during the 2022 season. In the 2023 season, he contributed with 17 receptions for 172 yards and one touchdown across 16 games. On March 5, 2024, Dissly was released by the Seahawks in a cap-saving move, but shortly after, he signed a three-year contract with the Los Angeles Chargers.
