DJ Moore, a seasoned wide receiver, was traded from the Chicago Bears to the Buffalo Bills during the offseason, enhancing the team’s receiving options ahead of the 2024 NFL campaign. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Bills acquired Moore along with a 2026 fifth-round draft pick in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick.
Impact on Buffalo’s Offensive Lineup
Moore, 28, began his career with the Carolina Panthers, where he had three seasons exceeding 1,000 receiving yards. After five years there, he joined the Bears in 2023 in a trade connected to the Panthers securing the top overall pick for Bryce Young, a move followed by the Bears gaining Caleb Williams a year later.
While Moore’s initial season with Chicago was strong, with 96 receptions, 1,364 yards, and eight touchdowns, his performance declined sharply in 2025, managing only 50 catches for 682 yards and six touchdowns alongside quarterback Caleb Williams. The Bears, focusing on younger receivers like Luther Burden III and Rome Odunze, deemed Moore expendable.
Buffalo hopes Moore will return to the high level of production he displayed earlier in his career, adding a reliable target to quarterback Josh Allen’s arsenal as the Bills aim to strengthen their passing game following Stefon Diggs’ departure.
Adjusting After Stefon Diggs’ Exit
The Bills parted ways with Stefon Diggs in the 2024 offseason, a decision that, in hindsight, had some merit but left a gap in the receiving corps. Moore’s addition does not fully replace Diggs’ role but represents a significant boost as Buffalo looks to diversify its weapons for Allen.
Done deal: The Bills are sending a 2026 second-round pick to the Bears for WR D.J. Moore and a 2026 fifth-round pick, per sources.
