Patrick Mahomes Scores Win: Restaurant Stays Open Amid Lawsuit

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes faced a challenging 2025 season, combining a knee injury with off-field legal issues. Despite his efforts on the field, which included 3,587 passing yards and 22 touchdowns, Mahomes suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 15. Meanwhile, his newly launched steakhouse, 1587 Prime, avoided closure after a federal lawsuit challenged its name.

Mahomes’ Difficult 2025 NFL Season and Injury Setback

Patrick Mahomes completed 315 of 502 passes during the 2025 NFL season, totaling 3,587 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He also contributed 422 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 64 carries. Despite his individual statistics, the Chiefs struggled throughout the year and finished with a disappointing 6-11 record, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014.

In Week 15 against the Los Angeles Chargers, Mahomes sustained a serious knee injury that prematurely ended his season. The Chiefs lost the game 16-13 and were officially eliminated from postseason contention. Losing their cornerstone quarterback added to the team’s difficulties and raised concerns about their performance heading into the next season.

Launching 1587 Prime and Facing Legal Challenges

Off the field, Mahomes collaborated with teammate Travis Kelce to open 1587 Prime, an upscale steakhouse that debuted in September 2025. However, by February, the restaurant became the target of a federal trademark lawsuit filed by 1587 Sneakers, a sneaker and merchandise company, which claimed the restaurant’s name violated their trademark rights.

The sneaker company sought a temporary restraining order to force the steakhouse to close while the case was ongoing. Fortunately for Mahomes and his partners, the court denied this emergency request. According to a KCTV5 report,

“The judge ruled against 1587 Sneakers, finding the company waited too long after the restaurant opened to request emergency action.”

The report also noted,

“The court also raised questions about whether jurisdiction held over a Kansas City-based restaurant.”

Although this denied restraining order allows 1587 Prime to remain open for now, the legal battle is ongoing and could see further developments in court. For the time being, Mahomes’ steakhouse continues normal operations without interruption.

Mahomes’ Rehabilitation Plans and Team Outlook

As Mahomes focuses on recovering from his knee injury, his goal remains to be ready for the Chiefs’ Week 1 game in the upcoming 2026 season. His rehabilitation progress will be closely watched given his critical role as the team’s quarterback and leader.

The Chiefs organization, led by head coach Andy Reid, is dealing with the consequences of missing the playoffs and now faces pressure to rebound next year. The status of Patrick Mahomes’ knee and his return timeline will be key factors in Kansas City’s plans moving forward, impacting both team morale and competitive prospects.
