The Pittsburgh Steelers have historically excelled in scouting and developing wide receivers, keeping the position a consistent strength for years. Recently, however, the wide receiver spot has become one of the Steelers’ notable weaknesses. Addressing this deficiency has become a key priority for the team during the offseason, with free agency presenting potential options. Former Steelers cornerback Joe Haden has singled out Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Rashid Shaheed as a promising target for Pittsburgh.
Joe Haden Highlights Rashid Shaheed as a Strong Sleeper Pick
During his Deebo and Joe podcast, Haden emphasized the team’s need for another receiver and identified Shaheed as a standout option.
“I know that we’re gonna need another receiver,”
Haden stated.
“My main guy that I would like, I think people are sleeping on my dude Rashid Shaheed.”
He further praised Shaheed’s versatility, adding,
“He’s one of my sleeper picks at wide receiver because I think he’s a dog receiver. He’s a sneaky dude and special teams, I think he would help out our special teams big time in the kickoff return game and the punt return game along with his receiver skills.”
Rashid Shaheed’s NFL Journey and Performance
Shaheed entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the New Orleans Saints in 2022, mainly contributing on special teams. His standout performance earned him first-team All-Pro honors in 2023 for his special teams work. During the 2025 season, the Saints traded Shaheed to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for mid-round draft picks, a move some analysts believed the Steelers should have pursued since they were also seeking receiver help.
Shaheed became a crucial asset for the Seahawks during their Super Bowl campaign, highlighted by a kickoff return touchdown in the Divisional Round. This impactful play reinforced his value, especially on special teams.
Future Prospects for Shaheed with the Steelers
Shaheed will soon be a free agent, and with no clear path to a contract extension with the Seahawks, the Steelers have a new chance to add him. While Shaheed is unlikely to serve as a top-tier WR2, his impressive speed makes him an effective deep threat that could complement Pittsburgh’s existing talent, including DK Metcalf.
Besides bolstering the receiving corps, Shaheed’s ability to contribute on special teams could address another area where the Steelers have struggled. Considering Shaheed’s likely affordable price tag, he represents a potential upgrade that fits multiple team needs heading into the next season.
