Connor McGovern, the Buffalo Bills’ standout center, has resolved lingering uncertainty by signing a four-year contract reportedly valued at $52 million, including $32 million guaranteed. This deal makes McGovern the NFL’s third-highest paid center on an average annual basis and places him second in guaranteed money, keeping him with the Bills through the 2026 season.
McGovern’s Role and Past Performance with the Bills
McGovern, who initially thought his time in Buffalo had ended, will now remain a cornerstone of the Bills’ offensive line. Joining the team in 2023, McGovern started his first year at left guard before shifting to center following the departure of Mitch Morse. His solid play earned him a Pro Bowl selection in 2024. Across his three seasons in Buffalo, McGovern has started 49 games, building on four previous seasons with the Dallas Cowboys.
Team Strategy and Future Offensive Line Considerations
By re-signing McGovern, the Bills lock in three of their starting offensive linemen for the near future. However, left guard David Edwards faces free agency with a potentially difficult market and Buffalo’s limited cap space, making his return uncertain. Should Edwards depart, the Bills have internal candidates to fill his position, and they could explore lower-cost free agents or draft picks as alternatives.
Connor McGovern hasn't even heard from Brandon Beane, leading the UFA center to believe his Bills tenure is "over and done." https://t.co/xF28YbEwRZ
