Analyst Doubts Josh Allen’s Bills Will Win Super Bowl

Following the Buffalo Bills’ high-profile acquisition of wide receiver DJ Moore, NFL analyst Jason McIntyre expressed strong skepticism about the team’s prospects of winning a Super Bowl. Despite hopes that adding a Pro Bowl receiver could elevate Josh Allen and the Bills, McIntyre firmly doubts the franchise’s ability to reach or win the Super Bowl in the near future.

McIntyre shared his analysis on March 6, a day after the trade was finalized, during his appearance on The Herd. He criticized the Bills’ general manager Brandon Beane for overpaying for Moore and questioned the organization’s overall strategy in supporting Allen, Buffalo’s star quarterback.

Concerns Over Buffalo’s Receiver Talent and Team Building Strategy

According to McIntyre, DJ Moore does not fit the mold of a top-tier No. 1 receiver. He stated,

DJ Moore is nothing close to a No. 1 receiver,

highlighting doubts about Moore’s ability to significantly impact the offense. McIntyre also targeted Beane’s drafting decisions, pointing out that since Josh Allen entered the league, the Bills have selected seven receivers, none of whom have surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in a season. He remarked,

The Bills have drafted seven receivers since they had Josh Allen… none of them have had a 1,000-yard season… this guy [Beane] is failing left and right.

McIntyre concluded with a bleak outlook for Allen’s future in Buffalo, saying,

It’s increasingly looking like Josh Allen is never going to win a Super Bowl, or even get to a Super Bowl, in Buffalo.

He underscored that the previous season gave the Bills their best chance, noting,

Last season was the shot. Mahomes was hurt… Lamar Jackson didn’t even make the playoffs… Joe Burrow… he didn’t make the playoffs, and the Bills could not get there.

Josh Allen’s Strong Performance Amid Team Limitations

Despite McIntyre’s harsh critique, Josh Allen has demonstrated consistent high-level play throughout his NFL career. Since his breakout performance in 2020, Allen has ranked among the top three quarterbacks in the league multiple times according to PFSN’s QB Impact Metric, and he earned the NFL Most Valuable Player honor in 2024.

In the playoffs, Allen has appeared 15 times, averaging 261 passing yards and 51.1 rushing yards per game, with nine rushing touchdowns. His efficiency is notable, possessing the lowest interception percentage (1.1%) in playoff history with 29 touchdown passes and only six interceptions. Allen holds an 8-7 postseason record with two AFC Championship appearances but has yet to advance past Kansas City’s team, which has been a persistent obstacle.

The Bills’ inability to reach the Super Bowl despite Allen’s individual success is attributed to a mix of insufficient receiving talent, defensive shortcomings, and tough competition, particularly facing quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in critical games.

DJ Moore’s Potential Impact and the Trade’s Uncertain Outcome

While McIntyre remains unconvinced that Moore will transform the Bills’ fortunes, fans and analysts note Moore’s value as a reliable wide receiver who could complement Allen’s talent. Last season, Moore caught 50 passes for 682 yards and six touchdowns, and ranked 71st in PFSN’s WR Impact Metric with a score of 71.6.

Two seasons ago, Moore amassed 1,364 receiving yards, placing him seventh among wideouts. Some believe Allen’s presence may help Moore regain that caliber of performance. Whether this trade will ultimately prove advantageous for the Bills hinges on their ability to leverage Moore’s skills and advance further in the playoffs, aiming to secure a coveted Lombardi Trophy.
