The recent trade of five-time Pro Bowler Maxx Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders to the Baltimore Ravens adds more pressure on the Lions’ ability to retain Muhammad. With Crosby off the market, teams eager to enhance their pass rush will likely turn to free agents like Muhammad as top alternatives.

After a solid first season with Detroit in 2024, Muhammad delivered a breakout performance last year. Playing every game, he recorded 15 solo tackles and achieved a personal best of 11.0 sacks over 457 defensive snaps. Pro Football Focus highlighted that Muhammad generated 53 pressures during the season, exceeding the total from his previous two seasons combined, despite fewer snaps played.

Muhammad maintained steady pressure throughout the year, registering three or more pressures in 10 games while having only six games with minimal impact. This level of consistency could attract significant interest once the free agency tampering period starts on Monday.

Lions’ Roster Priorities Could Limit Their Pursuit of Muhammad

Although retaining Muhammad would be ideal, Detroit must carefully weigh the cost against its broader roster needs. The team needs reinforcements along the offensive line, in the secondary, and at the No. 2 running back spot, making a costly bidding war for Muhammad less appealing.
