Sharks’ Macklin Celebrini Joins McDavid’s Olympic Lineup Excitement

Macklin Celebrini is stepping into a critical phase of his hockey career as he prepares to compete at the 2026 Winter Olympics alongside Connor McDavid and Tom Wilson on Team Canada. The San Jose Sharks center is paired with McDavid and Wilson, blending skill, energy, and physicality to form a versatile and balanced first line that aims to thrive both offensively and defensively.

The trio is currently building their connection and fine-tuning their on-ice chemistry ahead of their first Olympic game scheduled for February 12 against Team Czechia. This combination has attracted significant attention as fans and analysts anticipate how their dynamic will influence Canada’s performance in the preliminary stages.

Celebrini’s Rise and Role Alongside McDavid and Wilson

Celebrini has impressed this NHL season, tallying 28 goals and 53 assists for a total of 81 points while maintaining strong defensive contributions, reflected in a plus-10 rating. His youthful energy complements Connor McDavid’s elite playmaking skills, strengthening Canada’s offensive depth.

Speaking to TSN’s Mark Masters about skating with McDavid, Celebrini expressed,

“Playing with a guy like that, he’s just, I mean, you can’t really put into words the kind of player he is. It’s going to be fun.”

McDavid also acknowledged Celebrini’s capabilities, stating,

“Just impressed with how he handles everything.”

Tom Wilson, who rounds out the line playing on the right wing, emphasized the caliber of talent they bring together. He said,

“Obviously, two of the best players in the world,

and added,

“A lot of skill. A lot of IQ. A lot of speed. Get them the puck, it’ll be in good hands, and get to the net. I think pretty much everyone out there was acclimating to each other, getting used to each other, and leaning on each other. The first day is always fun. It’s going to be exciting to build on it.”

Wilson also highlighted his commitment to the team’s success regardless of his role, saying,

“For me, it doesn’t matter where I am. I’m going to try to play my game, do my thing, and I’ll do whatever it takes for this country. If I’m playing with Connor, I’ll try to help him in any way I can and help this team win. Doesn’t matter what role it is for me, I’m going to do my best, I’m going to work hard.”

International Experience and Olympic Implications for Team Canada

Celebrini’s previous experience at Boston University and his participation in the 2025 IIHF World Championship, where he played alongside Sidney Crosby, have prepared him well for the demands of international competition. This background helps him adjust quickly to the pace and style of Olympic hockey.

By placing Celebrini on Canada’s top line with McDavid, Team Canada gains a more flexible offensive weapon who can also contribute effectively on defense. This trio is poised to be a cornerstone of Canada’s strategies at the Winter Olympics, offering a blend of youthful agility and veteran savvy that could be decisive as the tournament progresses.
