Brandon Duhaime’s Surprise Florida Keys Wedding Stuns Guests

Brandon Duhaime, known as one of the Washington Capitals’ most playful personalities, surprised those close to him with an unconventional wedding over the recent Olympic break. He and his wife Kaylee exchanged vows during a low-key ceremony in Kaylee’s hometown in the Florida Keys, where guests only learned they were attending a wedding upon arrival. The couple intentionally designed the event as a private affair with a twist to create a memorable experience.

Keeping the Occasion Intimate and Full of Surprises

Duhaime shared with RMNB that they avoided the typical large wedding format:

“We didn’t really want to go the traditional route of a big wedding and stuff like that. So we kept it small, real small, and then tried to make some fun out of it and surprise everyone. It was a pretty special moment.”

The secrecy added to the charm, enhancing the impact for those involved.

Close Friends and NHL Connections Present

The guest list remained tight, with only a few attendees traveling to the island. Among them was Andrew Peeke, a defenseman for the Boston Bruins and a longtime friend of Duhaime’s, having grown up together from a very young age in Florida. The event did not include Duhaime’s Washington Capitals teammates, including Jakob Chychrun, a childhood friend, though some teammates have since teased him about the select invitations. Duhaime humorously acknowledged this, saying,

“I’m getting a hard time from them, but we kept it really tight. I probably had five buddies from Florida that drove up. It’s kind of a big ask, to get everyone down to Key West, so we kept it pretty local with our Florida friends.”

The Couple Missed Seeing Guests’ First Reactions

Despite the effort to surprise everyone, Duhaime missed witnessing the guests’ initial shock because he and Kaylee were already positioned for the ceremony. He explained,

“I wish I saw it, honestly. We were already tucked away. By the time they got off the boat and sat down, we were already kind of walking down the aisle, so we didn’t get a chance to see their reactions. But hopefully the photographer sends us the pictures of their reactions. They were pretty fun.”

Post-Wedding Relaxation Before Returning to Work

After celebrating their marriage, the newlyweds spent several days enjoying the Keys before heading back to Washington, D.C. for the Capitals’ training resumption. Duhaime noted,

“The wedding was on Saturday; we hung out until Wednesday. It’s not much of a honeymoon because she’s from there, but the place is paradise, so it’s nice to spend time down there.”

This intimate gathering not only marked a new chapter for Duhaime and Kaylee but also showcased a personalized approach to celebrating love while balancing personal ties and professional commitments.
