Artemi Panarin conveyed deep appreciation for his seven seasons with the New York Rangers following his trade to the Los Angeles Kings before the Olympic roster freeze. After joining the Kings, Panarin agreed to a two-year contract extension valued at $22 million. As the NHL prepares to resume play on February 25, Panarin shared a message devoted to the Rangers organization and their fans, highlighting his emotional connection to the team and New YorkCity.
Panarin reflected on his journey from Korkino to Madison Square Garden, saying,
“Dear NYR Fans, I wanted to express my genuine gratitude for the 7 years I’ve been playing as a New York Ranger! Thank you for your support, for the many great moments we had together,”
Panarin wrote. He continued,
“You will always have a special place in my heart! A big ‘Thank You’ to the entire Rangers organization! Thank you for letting me play for this legendary team at MSG, live in his amazing city. As a boy from Korkino, I’ve never even dreamed of playing at MSG, and being able to come into this building for 7 years was absolutely special to me. I’m deeply grateful to have had the opportunity.”
Panarin also looked back on his decision to join New York, adding,
“7 years ago, I chose New York with my heart, and I didn’t choose wrong! New York, you will always be in my heart! I hope you will forever remember my blocked shots. I’m a little nervous to think about coming back in March, but I’m looking forward and can’t wait to see you all! Artemi.”
His remarks underscored the personal bond he formed with the team and its supporters throughout his tenure.
The Rangers are set to face Panarin and the Kings again on March 16, marking a highly anticipated return to their home arena for the star forward.
Los Angeles Kings Celebrate Acquiring Panarin
The Los Angeles Kings secured Panarin in a trade, fulfilling the player’s preference to move to their franchise rather than serve as a temporary rental. After the trade, Kings general manager Ken Holland expressed excitement about adding Panarin to the roster and swiftly finalizing an extended contract.
“Obviously, we made the deal today to make our team better,”
Holland said.
“We signed him to a two-year extension. We weren’t going to do it as a rental. He didn’t want to go anywhere as a rental. He wanted to find a home, so we’re thrilled that he wanted to waive the no-trade (clause) to come to LA.”
Holland emphasized the value Panarin brings, stating,

“We’re happy that we were able to get him to a two-year extension, and after two years, I’m hoping that we’re working on another extension, but (I’ll) worry about that down the road. I think it was just a matter of these types of players with this resume are very, very difficult to find, and we had an opportunity to add one today.”
Throughout the current season, Panarin has compiled impressive statistics with 19 goals and 38 assists in 52 games, demonstrating his significant offensive impact.
Challenges Facing Rangers in Replacing Panarin
The New York Rangers view the trade of Panarin as part of a broader plan to retool the team during a difficult season. Despite this strategy, managing without one of their best players remains a challenge. Head coach Mike Sullivan acknowledged Panarin’s importance both on and off the ice, noting the player’s influence on team dynamics.
“Panarin is a terrific player and a great teammate, and he’s good friends with a lot of the guys that are in that dressing room,”
Sullivan remarked.
“That has an impact on guys. I thought our guys did a great job, just as far as controlling what they can and bringing the right intentions out there. But obviously, he’s one of the best Rangers of his generation, and he’s not an easy guy to replace, not in the lineup, but everybody understands it.”
As the Rangers hold a 22-29-6 record and sit at the bottom of the East Division, the team faces the pressing task of adapting without their former star. Panarin’s departure marks a significant moment for the organization as they prepare for future development and potential roster adjustments.
Upcoming NHL Return and Panarin’s Homecoming
With the NHL season resuming on February 25, fans will soon witness how both teams evolve post-trade. Panarin’s return to Madison Square Garden on March 16 will be an emotional occasion, symbolizing both the end of one chapter and the start of another for the Rangers. His message of gratitude signals the lasting impression he leaves while highlighting the determination of all parties involved to move forward amid change.
