Macklin Celebrini Opens Up on Olympic Heartbreak, Future Goals

Macklin Celebrini delivered a remarkable performance at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, helping Team Canada secure a silver medal. After the games, Celebrini spoke candidly about the painful loss to the United States in the gold medal match and shared his thoughts on the experience.

Macklin Celebrini Discusses the Close Defeat

Speaking to reporters in San Jose following the Olympic break, the Sharks forward acknowledged how narrowly the team missed victory.

“I think just losing, we were so close,”

Celebrini said.

“Whatever excuses you want to make about the game for us, I think at the end of the day we just didn’t win. It’s bitter, it’s sour that we didn’t win and we came that close, especially everything that we kind of fought through but can’t change it now.”

Playing Alongside Elite Talent Was an Honor

At 19 years old, Celebrini ranked second in scoring at the Olympics, tallying 10 points, just behind teammate Connor McDavid’s 13. He reflected on the privilege of playing with some of hockey’s greatest players.

“It was fun to be around those guys, play with them and a lot of those guys I looked up to my whole childhood,”

he shared.

“It was an honor to play with them and be around them every single day, but it sucks. It’s a little sour that you look back at it and just didn’t get the job done.”

Gaining Inspiration from the Best to Drive Future Success

Celebrini emphasized how the experience of being around top-tier competitors motivated him to keep improving.

“I think just being around the best of the best, obviously that’s my goal. Just looking at them and seeing how they approach every day and some of the things that they do to make themselves successful, it definitely helped.”

Despite the disappointment, he views the Olympic loss as a source of inspiration for the remainder of the NHL season. As the San Jose Sharks push toward the Stanley Cup playoffs, Celebrini aims to channel the lessons learned into a strong finish for his team.

What Lies Ahead for Celebrini and the Sharks

With the Sharks holding a record of 27-24-4, the team is focusing on making a meaningful run in the playoffs. Celebrini’s Olympic experience could prove valuable for the Sharks as they close the regular season, bringing intensity and focus gained from international competition to their quest for the Stanley Cup.
