Matt Duchene: Stars’ Comeback Perfect After Olympic Break

The Dallas Stars returned to the ice after the Olympic break with an impressive 4-1 victory against the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday. Forward Matt Duchene highlighted the team’s sharpness and readiness as key factors in their successful comeback, attributing their smooth transition to effective practices prior to the game. This performance demonstrated the Stars’ strong focus and determination following the pause in their schedule.

Preparation and Focus on Details Led to Team’s Success

Duchene praised the Stars’ preparation during the break, explaining that rigorous practice sessions helped the team avoid the usual rustiness seen after long pauses.

“I thought we played really well. I think we had some really good practices before and, really, they got us to get right back in the swing of things,”

Duchene said Thursday on The Sweet Spot on 96.7 FM/1310 The Ticket (KTCK-AM). He added,

“Usually there’s a little bit of rust and stuff there (after a break), but I thought we were as crisp as we’ve been all year.”

The forward emphasized that paying close attention to the finer points of the game played a significant role in their win.

“When you come back, everyone talks about the details and the little parts of the game. The team that usually gets to those things the best wins those games,”

Duchene said.

“We talked about it, our coaching staff talked about it, and I think we had a pretty clear idea of what gave us the success before the break and I think it was on everyone’s mind, coming back into last night, and I think we got right to it.”

Defensive Strength and Early Pressure Dominated the Match

Duchene highlighted the team’s defensive effort and physical presence as key elements that helped them control the game.

“We did a lot of those things, whether it’s physicality or good defensive play, I thought we were unbelievable defensively last night and I thought we broke a puck out really well. I wouldn’t have wanted to play against us last night, and I think we kind of really took the wind of their sails early and often in that game.”

This approach contributed to establishing momentum that the Kraken struggled to regain throughout the match.

Looking Ahead to the Upcoming Game Against Nashville

Following this confident return, Duchene and the Dallas Stars are set to face the Nashville Predators on Saturday night at the American Airlines Center. The team’s ability to maintain their focus and continue building on this comeback victory will be critical for sustaining their performance throughout the rest of the season.
