Boston Legacy FC Makes Major Acquisition: NWSL Champ Joins Team

Boston Legacy Football Club, the city‘s newly established professional women’s soccer team, announced on Thursday the acquisition of Josefine Hasbo from Gotham Football Club. A Harvard graduate and National Women’s Soccer League champion, Hasbo brings significant experience as the club prepares for its inaugural season. This Boston Legacy FC acquisition is expected to strengthen the team’s roster ahead of their March 14 debut.

Player Background and Career Achievements

Josefine Hasbo, 24, made 11 appearances for Gotham FC during their successful 2025 campaign that culminated in an NWSL championship. Prior to her time in the United States, she played for Danish powerhouse Brøndby IF, where she won the 2019 A-Liga title and competed in the Champions League for two consecutive seasons.

After leaving Brøndby in 2021, Hasbo moved to the U.S. to attend Harvard University. During her collegiate career, she helped Harvard capture the Ivy League title in 2023, notably scoring a hat trick in the final against Colombia. That same year, she was named a semifinalist for the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy, awarded annually to the top women’s college soccer player in the country.

International Experience and Versatility on the Field

Graduating through Denmark’s youth ranks, Hasbo represented the U16, U17, U19, and U23 squads before being called up to the senior national team at 18 in 2020. She has played for Denmark at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and UEFA Women’s Euro 2025, gaining valuable top-level international experience.

“We’re really happy to welcome Josefine back to Boston. She already knows the city and the environment from her time at Harvard, and that familiarity, along with her NWSL experience, will help her hit the ground running,”

said Boston Legacy FC General Manager Domè Guasch.

“She’s played at the highest level for Denmark, including the World Cup and Euros, and she brings a real mix of tactical intelligence, flexibility, and competitiveness. Josefine can help in a number of roles, and she understands what the game is asking for in different moments. Just as important, she fits what we’re building at Boston Legacy, on the pitch and off it. We’re excited to have her with us and looking forward to the impact she’ll make.”

Upcoming Season and Future Plans for Boston Legacy FC

Boston Legacy FC is set to launch its first season on March 14, with home games hosted at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. The team has ambitious plans to move into the newly renovated White Stadium in Boston by the 2027 season, aiming to establish a strong local presence and foster community support.

With the addition of Josefine Hasbo, along with other key figures such as first signing Annie Karich and head coach Filipa Patão, Boston Legacy FC is poised to make a significant impact in the National Women’s Soccer League and the broader women’s soccer landscape.
