Stella Nyamekye Loan Return Boosts Gotham FC Ahead

NJ/NY Gotham FC and Fort Lauderdale United FC have agreed to end the loan spell of 20-year-old Ghanaian forward Stella Nyamekye immediately, returning her to her parent club in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). This decision comes after Nyamekye spent six months gaining valuable experience in the USL Super League with Fort Lauderdale during their debut season.

Key Contributions and Development During Loan Period

Nyamekye, a prominent member of the Ghanaian national team, the Black Queens, initially signed a three-year contract with Gotham FC in early 2025 but was loaned to Fort Lauderdale in August to accelerate her professional growth. Throughout fourteen appearances, she scored once and assisted twice, distinguishing herself by leading the squad in key passes and demonstrating high passing accuracy. Her performances made her a vital figure for the Florida-based team before the clubs mutually agreed to terminate the loan ahead of schedule.

Recall and Permanent Return to Strengthen Gotham’s Squad

Earlier in January, Nyamekye was temporarily recalled to Gotham FC for the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup training camp. Though she briefly returned to Fort Lauderdale afterward, the two clubs decided it would be more beneficial for her development and Gotham’s competitive plans if she remained permanently with her parent club. This move enhances Gotham’s roster depth as they prepare for a challenging domestic season, ensuring Nyamekye remains in optimal form.

Implications for International Competitions and Future Prospects

Under contract with Gotham FC through 2027, Nyamekye is expected to play a significant role for Ghana in the upcoming 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The early return from loan not only strengthens Gotham’s lineup but also allows her to focus on preparations for international duty, positioning her as a key player on both club and national levels in the near future.
