Gotham FC has finalized the transfer of forward Gabi Portilho to San Diego Wave FC, as confirmed by the National Women’s Soccer League club on Monday. The agreement involves Gotham receiving $175,000 in intraleague transfer funds for the Brazilian international, who joined Gotham ahead of the 2025 season.
Portilho’s Impact at Gotham FC
Gabi Portilho arrived from Brazilian club Corinthians, where she spent five seasons before moving to the NWSL. She made an immediate impression by becoming the ninth player in Gotham FC’s history to score in her debut regular-season match and the first Brazilian in league history to do so, scoring in a 1-1 draw against Seattle Reign FC on March 16.
Throughout the 2025 season, Portilho made 17 regular-season appearances, tallying three goals and three assists. Her contributions were instrumental in Gotham’s victories in both the 2025 Concacaf W Champions Cup and the NWSL championship, with Portilho starting in the quarterfinal and semifinal games during the NWSL Playoffs as Gotham secured its second league title in three years.
Club Reflections and Future Prospects
Yael Averbuch West, Gotham FC’s general manager and head of soccer operations, expressed gratitude for Portilho’s role in the team’s achievements:
“Gabi has been an important part of our club’s success since she joined us, and we’re thankful for everything she brought to Gotham FC,”
she said.
“We wish her all the best as she moves forward in her career.”
This transfer highlights Gotham FC’s ongoing strategy to manage roster transitions while aiming to maintain competitive success in the NWSL. Gabi Portilho’s move to San Diego Wave FC is expected to add strength to their attacking lineup as the league progresses.
