Roger Maltbie, a veteran golf broadcaster, is making a comeback to television this season by covering five PGA Tour events for Golf Channel. At 74 years old, Maltbie will work as an on-course reporter for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Players, the Cadillac Championship, and the Memorial Tournament. His return is part of Golf Channel’s expanded coverage following its separation from NBC earlier this year.
Continuing a Longstanding Golf Broadcasting Career
Maltbie has been involved intermittently with golf broadcasts since NBC chose not to renew his contract for the 2023 season. Despite this, he has remained a familiar voice, having appeared with fellow analyst Gary Koch during the last two Players Championships. This year, however, Maltbie’s focus will be exclusively on Golf Channel’s broadcasts for the five designated PGA Tour events.
Passion for Golf Drives Maltbie’s Return
Expressing enthusiasm for his continuing role, Maltbie said,
“I’m excited that they still want me to do this, and I guess they feel like I am still someone viewers want to listen to,”
illustrating his deep connection with the sport and its fanbase. He also emphasized his love for the game by adding,
“The bottom line is that I want to keep going because I’m a fan of the game. I watch a good bit of it from home, and I look forward to getting up close and seeing all these new guys and how they play.”

Tom Knapp, Golf Channel’s Executive Vice President, praised Maltbie’s return, noting,
“Having the familiar tone of Roger Maltbie on the call for Golf Channel as our lead on-course reporter at these iconic venues is going to be tremendous.”

Future Coverage and Collaborations
Unlike previous years when Maltbie split duties between NBC and Golf Channel for the same tournaments, this year he will exclusively work the five PGA Tour events for Golf Channel. However, he has also agreed to contribute to NBC’s coverage of other major golf competitions, including the U.S. Open, U.S. Senior Open, Senior PGA Championship, and the American Century Championship, under a separate agreement. This arrangement reflects the evolving landscape of golf media rights following the Golf Channel’s separation from NBC.
