Justin Thomas Cleared to Play, Eyes PGA Tour Return in Florida

Justin Thomas, the two-time major champion, announced on Tuesday that he has been cleared to resume all golf activities after undergoing a microdiscectomy in mid-November 2025. The injury occurred just weeks after Thomas played for the U.S. Ryder Cup team at Bethpage Black. With this clearance, Thomas is targeting the Florida Swing as the potential time to make his return to the PGA Tour.

Injury Recovery and Progress Updates

Thomas shared on social media:

“After some follow-up imaging and meeting with my Dr and team, I’m officially cleared for all golf activity,”

adding,

“It feels great to be swinging freely again and getting some reps in on the course. I’m working hard to build up my strength and stamina to get back into golf shape before competing on the PGA Tour. Can’t wait to get out there with the guys!”

Earlier in January, Thomas reflected on his recovery efforts, stating on X,

“I’m slowly building back my strength and conditioning in the gym, and also hitting wedges/short irons. Little victories and patience have been the biggest part of the process. Taking it slow and listening to how I’m feeling each day!”

Career Highlights Leading Up to the Hiatus

Prior to his surgery, Thomas last competed in the 2025 Procore Championship, a FedEx Cup Fall event used by Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley to prepare the team for its match against Europe. Thomas has accumulated 16 PGA Tour wins in his career and ended a winless streak during the 2025 season by defeating Andrew Novak in a playoff at the RBC Heritage, a memorable tournament held just one week after the Masters.

Currently ranked No. 12 in the Official World Golf Rankings, Thomas remains a significant figure on the tour despite his recent challenges.

Looking Ahead to the Florida Tour Swing

Thomas emphasized his plans to return during the Florida Swing, sharing,

“I’m looking to come back competitively at some point during the Florida swing. I know how important it is to get this injury behind me so that I’m only looking forward over the course of the season.”

His cautious yet optimistic approach underlines the importance of full recovery to sustain his competitive form throughout the upcoming PGA Tour season. This return will be closely watched by fans and fellow professionals as Thomas aims to regain his position among the sport’s elite.
