Charlie Woods, son of legendary 15-time major winner Tiger Woods, revealed on Tuesday his commitment to play collegiate golf at Florida State University. The decision marks a significant step in the young golfer’s promising career, as he joins one of the nation’s top programs known for developing elite players.
Ranked 21st in the American Junior Golf Association and 12th among the Class of 2027 high school athletes, Charlie selected the Florida State Seminoles, a team with a strong history of success and recent accolades, including two Ben Hogan Award winners in the past five years, such as current champion Luke Clanton.
Progress and Achievements Leading to College Commitment
Charlie shared his commitment news through Instagram, where his father quickly expressed support.
“Congratulations, Charlie. I’m so proud of you on entering this next chapter of your life,”
Tiger Woods wrote.
During his junior season at The Benjamin School, Charlie played a key role in securing his team’s second state championship in three years, the fifth in the program’s history. In the final round at Mission Inn Resort, he delivered a 4-under-par 68, helping his team rally to a five-shot win over The First Academy. Charlie finished the tournament tied for fourth overall at 2-under par, with rounds of 74 and 68.
His earlier victory at the 2025 Team TaylorMade Invitational was a milestone, marking his first win in AJGA competition against a highly competitive field, signaling his advancement in skill and confidence.
Florida State University’s Legacy in Collegiate and Professional Golf
The Florida State Seminoles boast 57 NCAA All-Americans and were national championship runners-up in 2024. The program’s reputation for nurturing top talent is backed by numerous PGA Tour stars, including Brooks Koepka, Paul Azinger, Hubert Green, and Jeff Sluman, who collectively have won nine major championships.
Charlie Woods’ decision to join such a prestigious program highlights his ambition to follow in the footsteps of these golf greats, while continuing to build on his own developing career.
