Scottie Scheffler revealed details about his unexpected arrest in 2024, which occurred at the entrance of Valhalla Golf Club just before the PGA Championship. The incident, involving charges linked to reckless driving and second-degree assault on a police officer, took place amid heavy traffic caused by a nearby pedestrian accident.
On the day of the second round of the PGA Championship, Scheffler was stopped by police as he attempted to enter the venue. According to reports, when an officer tried to halt him, an injury occurred, resulting in Scheffler’s detention. He spent several hours in jail but managed to return in time to complete his rounds during the tournament.
Recalling the Experience Inside the Holding Cell
In a recent conversation with Robby Berger, host of Bob Does Sports, Scottie Scheffler opened up about his time in custody. During a golf matchup streamed by Berger, Scheffler described the moments he spent isolated in a holding cell awaiting proceedings.
“They put me in, like, a holding cell, I think,” Scheffler said. “Yeah. So I’m in a cell by myself, and that was the cell that I stretched in. But if you went to the front of the cell and looked out that way, I could see a TV, and I saw myself on the TV. So that’s when I was like, ‘Holy smokes, it’s still spinning.’ I’m like, ‘How the heck am I in here?’ But then I saw myself on the TV and then I saw they delayed it, and I was like, ‘Oh, maybe I’ll get out of here in time, and I can still play.’” – Scottie Scheffler, Golfer
Despite the shock, Scheffler remained focused on his ability to resume competition, which he successfully did that same day at the PGA Championship.
Performance at the 2024 PGA Championship Following the Incident
After his release, Scheffler returned to the course and delivered an impressive show of resilience. He posted a 66 in the second round to follow up his opening 67, concluding the major with rounds of 73 and 65. Finishing at 13 under par, Scheffler tied for eighth place in the tournament.

Importantly, the legal charges connected to his arrest, including reckless driving and assault, were eventually dismissed by the court, clearing the way for Scheffler to continue his career without further legal distractions.
Scottie Scheffler’s Recent Play at the 2026 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am
Fast forward to 2026, Scottie Scheffler participated in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am held at Pebble Beach Golf Links, starting on Thursday, February 12. In the opening round, he completed an even-par 72 with a mix of birdies and bogeys across the front and back nines.
Following the round, Scheffler shared insights during the press conference about the challenges posed by the course conditions and wind that affected his iron shots.
“I hit the iron shot how I wanted to,” he said. “You know the wind just carried it much further than it should have. If that ball lands on the green with how soft the greens are, probably a 15-footer for birdie. It lands about a foot into the fringe and not only doesn’t go in the bunker, it hops over that bunker. Fortunately in spite of the hazard I was able to make par. Little stuff like that I felt I was going up against today” – Scottie Scheffler, Golfer
After the first round, Scheffler was tied for 62nd. The leaderboard was led by Ryo Hisatsune, who held a 10-under-par score, underscoring the competitive challenge early in the event. Earlier in 2026, Scheffler had already demonstrated strong form by winning The American Express and achieving a third-place tie at the WM Phoenix Open.
The Significance of Scheffler’s Journey Through Adversity
Scottie Scheffler’s 2024 arrest and his immediate return to competitive golf highlight his mental toughness and dedication to the sport. Overcoming the difficulties posed by legal troubles and the stress of an unexpected jail visit, he was able to refocus and produce strong performances in major tournaments.
This episode, coupled with his continued presence in top-ranking tournaments like the 2026 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, cements his reputation as a resilient figure on the PGA Tour. Moving forward, Scheffler’s experiences may serve as motivation not only for himself but also for fellow golfers facing off-course challenges.
