Volkanovski Doubts Jean Silva as Next UFC Challenger

Alexander Volkanovski does not see Jean Silva as the likely contender to face him for the UFC Featherweight Championship. After defending his title by defeating Diego Lopes at UFC 325 this past Saturday in a rematch, Volkanovski anticipates a new challenger in his upcoming fight, but he is skeptical that Silva will be that opponent.

Jean Silva recently shared footage revealing his intention to train with reigning UFC Lightweight Champion Ilia Topuria in preparation for a potential title fight against Volkanovski. However, Volkanovski addressed Silva’s claims in a YouTube response, expressing doubts about Silva’s readiness and position in the featherweight division (via MMAJunkie).

Volkanovski Responds to Silva’s Bid for Title Opportunity

Volkanovski acknowledged Silva’s efforts to gain attention but questioned the seriousness of his challenge.

“You’ve got Silva, obviously just probably trying to get his name out there,”

Volkanovski said.

“He’s actually not a bad guy. I met him in Miami, and we got along pretty good. I thought he was a pretty nice guy, but now he’s saying a couple of things. I don’t know if he really is upset with the Ruffy thing. I don’t know if that’s an actual thing or people taking it way out of context.”

He went on to underline his uncertainty about Silva’s entitlement to a title shot and pointed to other contenders already in line.

“But now he’s saying some stuff and thinking that he really deserves next. If the UFC will push that for me, everyone knows me. I’ll fight anyone, but I don’t think that’s very likely to happen. I don’t think he’d be in a position to be able to fight for the title, especially when you’ve got Lerone Murphy and Movsar fighting very, very soon.”

Upcoming Contenders Could Determine Next Title Challenger

Lerone Murphy and Movsar Evloev are scheduled to compete in the UFC London main event on March 21. Their bout is widely viewed as a potential No. 1 contender matchup, although UFC’s matchmaking decisions remain unpredictable. Their fight outcome could heavily influence who faces Volkanovski next, sidelining challengers like Silva.

Implications for the UFC Featherweight Division

Volkanovski’s skepticism about Silva highlights the depth and competition within the featherweight rank. With rising contenders like Murphy and Evloev on the horizon, the champion’s next opponent will likely come from this established pool, maintaining the division’s momentum. Fans and analysts will watch closely as the upcoming fights shape the future title picture.
