Nick Diaz Confident He Can Defeat Khamzat Chimaev Soon

Nick Diaz, the 42-year-old MMA veteran, appears to be in strong shape and eager to return to the UFC with hopes of securing a title fight. After stepping away from the spotlight to enter rehab, Diaz’s determination to compete at the highest level has reignited as he plans his comeback.

In a recent conversation with Full Violence TV, Diaz opened up about his intentions, emphasizing that while he desires a UFC title shot, he understands he must earn his way back through competition.

“I wish they would just give me a title shot, but I have to fight for that, so.”

The Stockton native expressed flexibility in choosing his weight class, mentioning a readiness to compete at either middleweight (185 pounds) or welterweight (170 pounds), with a slight preference for the latter.

“I don’t care. 185 or 170…I could fight 185, but I would like to fight 170.”

Throughout his career, Diaz fought in lightweight, welterweight, and middleweight divisions. When asked about potential opponents, he indicated interest in the current UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev and also spoke about middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev as a possible adversary.

“Yeah, or the other guy. Chimaev.”

Diaz expressed confidence in his ability to win against these top fighters, though he acknowledged the unpredictability inherent in fight matchups.

“I think I could beat both of them. I could lose too but I mean I could see myself winning those fights. It’s just matchups and fighters. You know what I mean? It’s coming in with the right formula and fighting the right fight.”

Diaz last stepped into the octagon in 2021, when he was defeated by Robbie Lawler, and has since been focused on preparing for his return to competition.

Strained Relationship Between Nick Diaz and Nate Diaz

Nick Diaz and his younger brother Nate Diaz are well-known figures in mixed martial arts, but recent comments by Nick hint at tension between the siblings. Diaz revealed that his social circle has shrunk following his time in rehab, naming only his wife and friend Martin Sano as close confidants.

He also addressed issues with others, including Nate, making pointed remarks about negativity within their shared circles.

“My circle is small now because of them, and I see now why it is that way… For my brother Nate I don’t know what his issue is but you need to cut out the s*** talkers in your group to keep it real they are embarrassing to be around. Everyone, enjoy your lives, be positive, and enjoy your freedom.”

The Future of Nick Diaz’s UFC Comeback

Nick Diaz’s intention to return to the UFC highlights a seasoned fighter determined to reclaim his place among the sport’s elite. His openness to fighting in multiple weight classes, combined with his willingness to face champions like Islam Makhachev and Khamzat Chimaev, signals his readiness to take on challenging high-profile bouts.

As Diaz resumes his career, fans and analysts will be watching closely to see if his confidence translates into in-cage success, especially given his recent reflections on personal struggles and family dynamics. How he navigates his relationships and rebuilds momentum in the UFC could significantly influence the trajectory of his comeback and the broader welterweight and middleweight divisions.
