Vinicius Oliveira, a rising contender in the UFC bantamweight division, has revealed his intention to eventually move up a weight class because of the severe challenges posed by cutting weight. This weekend, Oliveira is set to face Mario Bautista in the main event at UFC Vegas 113, held at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas. He shared insights into the physical toll his current weight management demands.
At a recent media session, Oliveira disclosed that he typically loses approximately 50 pounds (23-24 kilograms) during his training camp to make the 135-pound bantamweight limit. This intense cut has limited his ability to compete frequently.
“I weigh so much… I need to lose 23-24 kilos, so I cannot fight often.”
Oliveira’s admission highlights the extent of the challenge involved in maintaining his competitive weight.
Determined to Claim Bantamweight Title Before Considering Move Up
Despite the difficulties caused by his weight cuts, Oliveira remains focused on capturing the UFC bantamweight championship. He plans to stay in this division until he secures the title but intends to move to a higher weight class afterwards, citing health concerns related to his current regimen.
“To be honest, I need to lose a lot of kilos. I used to do that, but it is tough for me. I don’t know how many times I’m going to stand in this division, so I’ve got a plan to get the belt faster, then move on. Move on from my division because I think it’s not healthy for the body to lose a lot of pounds.”
‘LokDog,’ as Oliveira is known, also discussed recent adjustments to his nutrition, aiming to improve his health despite the ongoing challenge of cutting large amounts of weight.
“I usually lose from the beginning of my camp, 24, 23 kilos to fight, and that’s too much. I feel really tired, and I feel sick, but now I did some different things with my health and my food. I put out the sugar, so I think it’s making me better than the last time I cut weight, but the suffering is the same. [Thursday], I need to lose, like, six or seven kilos.”
Oliveira’s Undefeated UFC Run and Stakes in Upcoming Bout
The 30-year-old Brazilian knockout specialist currently holds a perfect 4-0 record in the UFC. Notable victories against competitors such as Kyler Phillips and Said Nurmagomedov have helped him climb the rankings steadily.

This weekend’s confrontation with the ninth-ranked Mario Bautista could be a pivotal moment in Oliveira’s career. A win would likely catapult him into the top five contenders and bring him closer to a title shot, furthering his plan to claim the bantamweight belt before eventually moving up in weight.
Health Challenges May Shape Oliveira’s Long-Term UFC Path
Oliveira’s revelations underscore the physical sacrifices that elite fighters endure to make weight for their divisions. His struggle to maintain such a drastic weight cut repeatedly has prompted him to reconsider his long-term placement within the UFC’s weight classes. Prioritizing health, Oliveira’s strategy is to achieve championship status and then transition to a higher division where the toll on his body would be less severe.
Given his undefeated streak and methodical approach, Oliveira’s career trajectory will be closely watched by MMA fans and analysts alike. Success against Bautista could accelerate his title aspirations, but the continued weight challenges may ultimately influence the sustainability of his bantamweight tenure.
