Vinicius Oliveira admitted he was not in peak condition for his bantamweight clash against Mario Bautista at UFC Vegas 113, held last Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Despite entering the fight confident in his strategy to secure a victory, Oliveira was hampered by injuries that ultimately impacted his performance against Bautista.
Throughout the fight, Oliveira appeared sluggish and out of sync, as Bautista controlled much of the action. The Brazilian fighter, who came in with an unbeaten 4-0 UFC record, succumbed to a rear-naked choke submission, tapping out at the end of the second round.
Multiple Training Injuries Cited as Reason for Oliveira’s First UFC Loss
Following the submission defeat, Oliveira took to social media to explain that he had suffered significant injuries during his training camp, including a broken arm sustained just two months before the fight. Despite these setbacks, he chose to compete, acknowledging these impairments played a major role in his loss.
Well, earthlings, things went wrong again. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve lost in my life, but every time I’ve gotten up and moved on. I’m sad for my team and for everyone who was cheering for me, but anyway, no sad stories, let’s move on to another journey. I did the impossible, I dropped below 84kg again, I had 3 injuries during this fight camp: a rotator cuff injury, a meniscus injury, and also a fracture in my arm, but I’m still the best, the terror has a name! Yeeeeeeah!

Career Highlights and Future Prospects Following UFC Setback
Oliveira earned his UFC contract after a first-round knockout of Victor Madrigal on Dana White’s Contender Series in September 2023. He maintained momentum by delivering a flying-knee knockout against Bernardo Sopaj in his promotional debut in March 2024.
Following his debut, Oliveira collected three unanimous decision wins over tough competitors including Ricky Simón, Said Nurmagomedov, and Kyler Phillips, solidifying his reputation as a formidable striker. His professional record stands at 23 wins and 4 losses, boasting 16 victories by knockout.
As Oliveira recovers from his injuries and reassesses his training approach, his next steps in the UFC will be closely watched by fans and analysts alike. The outcome of this period of reflection and rehabilitation will be critical for his future in the division and his pursuit of continued success in the Octagon.
