Alex Pereira Might Face Shara Magomedov—But Not in US

Alex Pereira, the UFC lightweight champion, has expressed interest in boxing legend Jon Jones at the UFC White House event, but no progress has been made toward that fight. Instead, discussions have emerged about Pereira possibly facing Shara Magomedov, though travel restrictions may affect where the fight takes place.

Rizvan Magomedov of Dominance MMA recently addressed Shara Magomedov’s next UFC bout in an interview with Sport24. When asked about potential matches involving Shara and rumors of a wrestling contest between Shara and Pereira, Rizvan described Shara’s gradual shift in fighting style and the challenges posed by travel limitations to the United States.

“I think Shara is quietly transitioning from a striker to a wrestler. Meanwhile, regarding his fight, we are waiting for a date, ideally an event in the Middle East or somewhere else. Since, for obvious reasons, he can’t compete in the United States.”

He highlighted the similarities between the two fighters, noting their expertise in striking and their potential matchup’s appeal to fans.

“He’s filling this free time with these kind of matches, but it will be interesting to see this fight. It’s essentially two strikers, two specialized strikers who will be fighting.”

Rizvan also revealed that negotiations for the fight are ongoing, though no final agreements have been reached.

Shara Magomedov previously participated in a one-round exhibition wrestling bout against Arman Tsarukyan, demonstrating his evolving grappling skills. This background makes a proposed wrestling match with Pereira plausible and relevant in the near future.

Jon Jones Reflects on the Possibility of Facing Alex Pereira at UFC White House

Alex Pereira’s hopes for a showdown with Jon Jones at the UFC White House event appear increasingly uncertain. Jones, who has also shown eagerness to fight Pereira, recently spoke candidly about the situation in an interview with The Schmo.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen, Schmo. I’m working out, I’m eating healthy. I’m living the lifestyle, I’m walking the walk. I’ve done it my whole life, and I don’t really know what’s going to happen, but regardless, man. I take it one day at a time. Some things are just out of my control. But I feel good, I feel blessed. Whether I fight again or not, I feel wonderful. I’m so grateful for this life God has granted me with.”

In a separate conversation with Helen Yee, Jon Jones suggested that retirement from combat sports could be on the horizon as he considers pursuing other opportunities beyond fighting.

Significance and Future Outlook for Alex Pereira’s Fight Prospects

The potential matchup between Alex Pereira and Shara Magomedov represents an intriguing contest between two skilled strikers, with the added complexity of evolving wrestling abilities, especially on Magomedov’s side. However, legal and logistical hurdles related to issuing visas and travel restrictions have largely restricted the venue options to locations outside the United States, such as the Middle East.

Meanwhile, the anticipated fight between Pereira and Jon Jones at the UFC White House remains uncertain as Jones contemplates his future within the sport. This developing situation keeps fans and analysts attentive to where Pereira’s next significant fight will take place, emphasizing alternatives outside the US if current negotiations progress.
