Colby Covington in Talks for Historic UFC White House Fight

Colby Covington is currently engaged in negotiations to participate in the UFC’s upcoming event at the White House, set for June 14 to celebrate the United States’ 250th anniversary. This event offers a rare and prestigious opportunity for fighters, combining national celebration with the sport’s growing prominence.

Covington Eyes a Rare UFC Event at the Nation’s Capital

The UFC’s White House fight was first announced last year by President Donald Trump and UFC President Dana White, both promising an unforgettable occasion. Since the announcement, Covington has expressed strong interest in securing a spot on this special card, viewing it as a milestone that would elevate both his career and legacy in mixed martial arts.

“I’ve been negotiating with the UFC for the White House card. You know, that’s the one that I want,”

Covington shared during an interview on Hot Cakes & Hot Takes.

I told them this is important to my legacy and important to my career.

Having competed previously at Madison Square Garden in a headline fight, Covington described the potential bout at the White House as the biggest fight of his career.

“This would be the biggest fight I’ve ever had is to fight on the south lawn in front of the President would be the greatest honor of my career,”

he added. “We’re in negotiations right now.”

His comments illustrate how much American fighters value participating in such a historic occasion, blending patriotism with career-defining moments.

Possible Opponent for Covington at the White House Event

Covington has also hinted at who he might face if he makes the White House fight card. He prefers an international matchup rather than taking on a fellow American, aiming to create a compelling nation-versus-nation narrative in keeping with the event’s patriotic theme.

“I’d really like to fight with Paddy Pimblett. He had shown interest that he might want to come up a weight class to welterweight. He’s cutting a lot of weight to get to 155 [pounds]. The kid weighs 200 [pounds], he looks like [expletive],”

Covington stated on Hot Cakes & Hot Takes.

He further elaborated:

“I love that fight. Plus, it’s a fight where it’s an American vs. a British guy. I don’t want to fight an American guy on the card of the 250th birthday of America.”

Pimblett recently challenged for the interim lightweight title at UFC 324 but was defeated by Justin Gaethje via unanimous decision. Whether Pimblett will move up to welterweight for a contest against Covington remains uncertain, but the prospect adds intrigue to the upcoming White House showdown.

Maintaining Activity Through RAF Amid UFC Layoff

Covington last competed in December 2024 at UFC Tampa, where he lost to Joaquin Buckley by a TKO due to a doctor’s stoppage. Should he fight at the White House event, it will mark roughly 18 months since his last UFC appearance, a lengthy period of inactivity for a top contender.

To stay sharp during this break, Covington has participated in a wrestling match under the Rules of Amateur Fighting (RAF) against former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold. He expressed appreciation toward the UFC for permitting him to compete in these alternative matches.

“It’s one of the main aspects of mixed martial arts, but it’s no competition to the UFC because they’re completely different sports,”

Covington explained on Hot Cakes & Hot Takes.

“Luckily the UFC is allowing us to compete in RAF and I want to build this league up into a mainstream sport.”

This involvement highlights Covington’s commitment to remaining active and competitive, despite his hiatus from UFC fights.

The UFC’s White House event represents a unique fusion of sport and national pride, offering fighters like Colby Covington not only a platform for memorable competition but also a chance to be part of a historic American celebration. As negotiations continue, fans eagerly await confirmation of the fight card and potential matchups, with Covington’s participation likely to be a major highlight. This event could significantly impact Covington’s career trajectory and visibility, providing him a platform unlike any other in MMA history.
