Dricus du Plessis, the former UFC middleweight champion, is set to make his comeback on April 11 at UFC 327, held at the Kaseya Center in Miami. This appearance will mark his first fight since losing his title last year to Khamzat Chimaev by unanimous decision at UFC 319 in Chicago. His primary objective is to secure a rematch against Chimaev to reclaim the championship belt.
Addressing Weaknesses Ahead of Return
Following his defeat, Du Plessis has concentrated on fixing the mistakes that led to his loss, dedicating considerable time to training adjustments. He expressed his readiness for the April event, emphasizing the importance of the upcoming fight in his career.
“We need to fix some things, obviously, and I spent time now doing that,” Du Plessis told Fight Forecast. “But like I said, I’ll be ready for April. I would love to be on that April card, the Miami card. There’s no opponent yet, but I’m ready to go again and get my belt back. I’d of course love it to be Khamzat and redeem that loss but for me right now, the next fight is the most important fight of my life.”
Determined to Challenge Chimaev Once More
Du Plessis has made it clear that his focus remains on fighting Khamzat Chimaev again. He plans to counter Chimaev’s fighting style, which he expects to remain consistent. Confident in his preparations, Du Plessis sees the rematch as an opportunity to turn the tide.
“Fighting Khamzat again is of course what I’m after, am I expecting any surprises, no,” Du Plessis added. “There’s not going to be any surprises, that’s the way he’s gonna fight and if he tries anything different it will be a terrible night [for him]. He did what he had to do to win the belt, and we can’t hate on him for that. Now it’s my responsibility to go and fix that, to stop him from doing that again and getting him to fight my fight.”
Next Steps for Du Plessis and UFC Fans
As Du Plessis readies himself for his return, fans anticipate whether the UFC will arrange the highly awaited rematch against Chimaev. The outcome could greatly influence the middleweight division’s future, potentially reshaping title standings and rivalries. Du Plessis’ commitment to overcoming previous setbacks highlights the intense competition at this level. The April fight will be a critical test of his adjustments and resolve as he aims to reclaim his status in the UFC middleweight ranks.
