Khamzat Chimaev, the current UFC Middleweight Champion, might still compete at the highly awaited UFC event scheduled to take place on the south lawn of the White House. This special occasion aims to honor the 250th anniversary of the United States and celebrate President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday.
President Trump has expressed excitement about the event, highlighting the scale and significance of the matches planned.
They’re gonna have eight or nine championship fights, the biggest fights they’ve ever had. Every one’s a championship fight, and everyone’s a legendary type of fighter.

Is There a Ban on Russian Fighters for the White House Card?
Although President Trump is enthusiastic about featuring top champions, it was previously believed that fighters with Russian connections, including Chimaev, might be excluded from the lineup. This assumption arose after Merab Dvalishvili mentioned that his anticipated rematch with UFC Bantamweight Champion Petr Yan would have to be postponed beyond the White House event.
Dvalishvili indicated that a ban on Russian competitors was in place for the card, which would also prevent UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev from participating. This restriction appears to be rooted in political considerations despite UFC’s desire to host major fights, making a June rematch involving Russian fighters impossible at this event.

Amid these developments, Chimaev’s coach Alan Mascimento offered a more optimistic perspective.
We’re just waiting to see what the UFC is going to decide,
he said.
We have heard a lot of speculation that no Russians would be allowed to fight (at the White House).
Reasons Khamzat Chimaev Might Avoid the Ban
With reports suggesting the UFC aims to schedule up to seven championship bouts during the White House event, excluding any titleholder would be a significant setback. However, Chimaev may sidestep any ban based on his nationality and representation, as explained by Mascimento.
Either way, he’s not a Russian anymore… That’s what people forget,
his coach stated.
Always (he has been) representing Sweden. Now he (is) representing the UAE.
Born in Chechnya, Chimaev relocated to Sweden at 18 and later acquired citizenship in the United Arab Emirates in 2025 after leaving Sweden in 2023. He successfully defended his middleweight title with a unanimous decision win over Dricus Du Plessis in Chicago last August but has yet to defend the belt again.
He has a UAE passport. He’s a UAE resident. He has a house here. He has everything here. Speaks English. So I think in his case it can be easier to fight in the White House. But the people who have the power and deal with the politics, I leave that to them,
Mascimento added.
Possible Headliner: Chimaev vs. Sean Strickland at the White House?
The headline bout for the White House UFC card has reportedly been revealed, but there is growing anticipation about a possible confrontation between Khamzat Chimaev and Sean Strickland, a top contender in the middleweight division. Chimaev took to social media following Strickland’s recent victory over Anthony Hernandez at UFC Houston to send a provocative message.
I destroyed the guy who beat you twice (Du Plessis). American b****!

A showdown between these two fighters could generate immense interest and commercial success. Yet, whether this matchup will actually take place at the White House event remains uncertain amid ongoing political and organizational considerations.
