Nate McCrary’s Professional Journey and Recent Activity

Nate McCrary, 26, hails from Muskegon, Michigan, and stands six feet two inches tall weighing 213 pounds. He was selected by the Houston Gamblers in the 2026 UFL Draft. Prior to joining the Gamblers, McCrary was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Baltimore Ravens on May 13, 2021.

During the 2021 preseason, McCrary carried the ball 42 times for 163 yards and a touchdown, along with three catches for 42 yards in three games. Despite this, the Ravens released him on August 31, 2021. His professional tenure also included stints with the Denver Broncos and the Cleveland Browns, the latter releasing him on October 31, 2023.

McCrary has logged a single regular-season NFL game appearance with the Ravens in 2021, where he had one carry for minus one yard. He later joined the Michigan Panthers on December 8, 2023, participating in the 2024 season with 16 carries for 60 yards and one touchdown, plus two receptions for 26 yards in four games. He notably contributed 11 carries for 62 yards in the 2024 USFL Conference Championship Game against the Birmingham Stallions.

The Panthers released him on August 13, 2024, but he was quickly signed by the Green Bay Packers on August 14, 2024. During two preseason games with the Packers, McCrary recorded 14 carries for 75 yards and caught two passes for four yards, securing a spot on the practice squad before his release on September 6, 2024. He returned to the Panthers on October 3, 2024, concluding the 2025 season with 97 carries for 380 yards, two rushing touchdowns, and nine catches for 57 yards over 10 games. In the 2025 playoffs, McCrary added six carries for 62 yards and one touchdown across two games.

At the collegiate level, McCrary played four seasons at Saginaw Valley State from 2016 to 2019, where he totaled 377 carries for 1,889 yards and 28 touchdowns, along with 12 receptions for 150 yards and one receiving touchdown in 33 games. He was honored as First Team All-GLIAC in 2019.

Implications of the Running Back Swap for the Gamblers

The decision to release Nate McCrary and bring Jalen White onto the roster reflects a strategic move by the Houston Gamblers as they prepare for the upcoming season. White’s strong collegiate production and experience with the Packers may offer fresh options for the Gamblers’ offense. Meanwhile, McCrary’s release ends a chapter with the team after several professional stops and solid performances, particularly in the USFL playoffs.
