Adapting to Change: The Dome Arena’s Shift From Pickleball to Youth Sports

Dome Arena’s Shift From Pickleball to Youth Sports: The Dome Arena in Henrietta has undergone significant changes in the past year. After operating as a pickleball club for just nine months, the facility closed in July 2024. Owned by Dr. Seth Zeidman and Frank Imburgia, the Dome has now returned to serving youth sports teams.

The Dome, a landmark at East Henrietta and Calkins roads, was repurposed in 2023 to create a 25,000-square-foot pickleball venue. Despite the initial excitement, the transition to a pickleball club did not last long.

Short-Lived Pickleball Venture

The owners, Dr. Zeidman and Imburgia sought to tap into the growing popularity of pickleball. However, they faced challenges that led to the abrupt closure.

“After only nine months, the pickleball courts were quickly dismantled,”. “Now, we’re focusing on using the Dome for youth lacrosse and soccer practice.”( Dr. Zeidman )

The facility’s new role will allow it to continue serving the community, even as it transitions away from pickleball.

A Local Landmark’s Journey

The Dome Arena has a rich history for those who grew up in Henrietta. Many remember it as a versatile space for events and sports. The shift to a pickleball club was an attempt to adapt to changing interests in recreational activities.

Despite the closure of the pickleball club, the owners hope to keep the facility relevant by supporting local youth sports programs.

Looking Ahead

The return to youth sports marks a new chapter for the Dome Arena. While the short-lived pickleball venture may be disappointing for some, the focus on lacrosse and soccer aligns with community needs.

This change highlights the importance of adaptability in business. As local interests evolve, facilities like the Dome will continue to seek ways to engage and serve the community.
