Township Manager Mike Laffey noted that pickleball has seen a rise in popularity, which led to the decision to build new courts. The township had already completed a pickleball court project in Diamond Beach, which contributed to the growing demand for more facilities.
Design and Construction Details
The Township Council authorized $60,000 for the design and construction management costs at its April 7 meeting. Engineer Marc DeBlasio’s proposal included $40,000 for engineering tasks such as surveying, base mapping, and design planning, as well as $20,000 for managing the construction phase, which includes contract oversight and part-time construction observation.
Project Budget and Management
The overall cost for the project is projected at $456,165, which includes the $60,000 allocated for design and administrative expenses. Mitch Plenn, the township’s superintendent of recreation, will serve as the project manager for the new courts.
