Pickleball Expansion in Denver: Denver Parks and Recreation will install a temporary pickleball court in Skyline Park this summer, bringing the popular sport to the heart of downtown near the 16th Street Mall. The court, located between 17th and 18th streets near the dog park, is expected to be ready before summer.
Court Enhancements and Long-Term Plans
This new installation builds on a similar temporary court set up last summer. The updated version will feature benches and fewer fences to improve park accessibility and enjoyment.
Skyline Park itself is headed for a major redesign. Planned upgrades include a winter ice rink, a summer water play area, a dining pavilion, and a venue for events.
Pickleball Expansion Across Denver
Skyline Park isn’t the only area getting attention. The city is designing new pickleball courts for the Rosedale and Lowry neighborhoods. Additionally, Denver officials are considering a longer-term site near Civic Center Station, where six courts could be placed on a gravel lot for up to seven years.
Popularity Meets Pushback
Pickleball has seen rapid growth across the U.S., blending elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong into a fast-paced, accessible game. However, the sport’s loud paddle-and-ball sounds have sparked noise complaints in some neighborhoods.
To address those concerns, one Denver court has begun encouraging the use of noise-reducing paddles.
News in Brief: Pickleball Expansion in Denver
Denver will open a temporary pickleball court in Skyline Park this summer, part of a broader effort to expand the sport across the city. Rosedale and Lowry are next in line, with a possible long-term site at Civic Center Station under review.
