New Pickleball Court Opens in Uniontown, Powered by Community

New Pickleball Court Opens in Uniontown: Uniontown celebrated the grand opening of its new pickleball court on September 1 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event saw Councilwoman Danea Esslinger, Levi Ervin—son of Councilman Jess Ervin—Councilwoman Mary Pemberton, and City Clerk Sally Johnson in attendance as the ribbon was cut by Levi Ervin.

The project, hailed as a community effort, was brought to completion with contributions from local residents and various organizations. The Uniontown Community Pickleball Court is now open and already becoming a daily gathering spot for pickleball enthusiasts.

A True Community Project

The court’s development was a collaborative effort involving the Healthy Bourbon County Action Team, Blue Cross/Blue Shield’s Pathways to a Healthy Kansas, Uniontown City Council, and the Uniontown Ruritan Club. Financial support came from a grant facilitated by the Healthy Bourbon County Action Team, with Blue Cross/Blue Shield Pathways to a Healthy Kansas contributing significantly to the project’s funding.

Local community members pitched in as well, donating equipment and benches. “We couldn’t have done it without the support of everyone involved,” said one of the organizers, emphasizing the collective spirit of the project.

Enhancing the Court’s Features

Adding to the collective effort, the Uniontown Ruritan Club is donating fencing for the north and south ends of the court, further enhancing the space for daily use by community members. The court is quickly becoming a central hub for residents, providing a space to stay active and foster connections.

The City of Uniontown wishes to thank all those involved with this project,” a city representative said, recognizing the significant contributions from everyone who helped bring the pickleball court to life.

A Lasting Impact

The ribbon cutting marks not just the completion of a construction project but the beginning of what is expected to be a long-lasting positive impact on the Uniontown community. The court is being used daily, showcasing its immediate value to residents and proving that this collective effort will benefit the community for years to come.
