UPA Debuts Pro Paddle Certification: In a significant move aimed at enhancing pickleball standards, the United Pickleball Association of America (UPA-A) launched its new certification program in collaboration with Pickle Pro Labs (PPL) and the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Collaboration with Industry Leaders: PPL and UMass Lowell

This developing initiative, similar to Major League Baseball‘s rigorous bat and ball testing, seeks to set the bar high for pickleball equipment across the board. The partnership with PPL and the University of Massachusetts Lowell highlights UPA-A’s dedication to maintaining the game’s integrity and promoting its growth.

“The United Pickleball Association of America is committed to upholding the integrity of the game and ensuring pickleball’s continued growth,” stated Jason Aspes, President of UPA-A.

“The collaboration with PPL and the University of Massachusetts Lowell, an institution that has set the gold standard in sports equipment testing, signifies our commitment to excellence and innovation. This partnership will ensure our testing and certification program is unmatched in the industry.”–Jason

Initial Certification Focus: Paddle Face Deflection and RPM

Initially, a temporary certification process will be introduced, focusing on measuring Paddle Face Deflection and RPM. This quicker certification will happen before the full program is fully implemented later in 2024, ensuring all certified paddles meet strict performance and quality standards.

As part of ongoing efforts, UPA-A will implement a careful compliance program to verify that certified paddles match those available to consumers. Once fully established, UPA certification will become mandatory for paddles used in all UPA professional events.

Expanding Advisory Board: Inclusion of Independent Brands

To ensure comprehensive industry representation, UPA-A will expand its Equipment Manufacturer Advisory Board to include voices from independent brands such as Volair, ACE, and Six Zero. This inclusive approach aims to gather diverse perspectives in shaping future standards for professional pickleball equipment.

With these initiatives, UPA-A is assured to improve the sport of pickleball to new heights, setting a benchmark for quality and performance that both players and fans can trust and rely upon.
