Kiwanis Pickleball Tournament Aims to Fund Scholarships

Kiwanis Pickleball Tournament: Registration for the Kiwanis Club of Baytown’s inaugural pickleball tournament is now open, signaling a fresh fundraising approach for the organization. The pickleball event is scheduled for 8 a.m. on Nov. 9 at the Lee College Tennis Center, located on West Texas Avenue. The club has chosen to replace its longstanding apple sale with this one-day tournament, aiming to raise scholarship funds while engaging the community in a more active way.

A New Fundraiser with Community Focus

The decision to switch from the traditional apple sale to a pickleball tournament stems from rising costs and shifting dynamics within the community. Unlike the multi-week apple sale, this pickleball event offers a concentrated opportunity for locals to come together for a day of fun, fitness, and fundraising. Pickleball players will be competing for first, second, and third-place prizes, with registration costing $150 per team or $75 per individual.

In addition to the tournament, the event will feature food trucks, providing refreshments for players and attendees throughout the day. The Kiwanis Club hopes that this new approach will draw significant participation while fulfilling its mission of supporting education and local service programs.

Sponsorship Opportunities

The pickleball tournament offers various sponsorship levels for businesses and individuals looking to contribute. At the platinum level, sponsors can make a $1,500 contribution, which includes their company logo on all event signage and advertising. The gold sponsorship is set at $1,000, with silver sponsorship available for $500. Lower tiers include bronze at $250 and a member sponsorship option for $100.

Those interested in sponsoring can mail payments to P.O. Box 178, Baytown, Texas 77522, or email Gary Englert at genglert@earthlink.net. For further inquiries, Englert can be reached at 713-805-9100. Additionally, a QR code is available on the event flyers for easy access to sponsorship options; contact Englert for more details.

Supporting a Legacy of Service

For over 75 years, the Kiwanis Club of Baytown has relied on its apple sale to fund local and international service projects. Now, through the pickleball tournament, they aim to continue that legacy.

The funds raised will go towards scholarships, local charitable organizations, and Service Leadership Programs in six area high schools and one elementary school. In addition, the funds will support Kiwanis International’s efforts, such as eliminating neonatal tetanus.

Beyond local educational initiatives, the funds also contribute to the Texas-Oklahoma Kiwanis District Sophomore of the Year awards and the club’s participation in the Chamber of Commerce Partners in Education program through its partnership with Alamo Elementary School.
