Pickleball Courts for Coletti Property Open a New Chapter in Recreation

Pickleball Courts for Coletti Property: The revival of the former Coletti Farm property, located near Verdi, Elena, and Hamlin Streets, is gaining momentum with an emphasis on pickleball courts and passive recreation. In response to community feedback, RAD Sports has proposed a conceptual design that includes dedicated pickleball facilities, walking trails, and open spaces to foster a vibrant community atmosphere.

Pickleball Takes Center Stage

During a recent Town Council meeting, officials showed plans that emphasize pickleball, a sport rapidly gaining popularity. Councilor Stefano Famiglietti noted that the design incorporates residents’ desires for recreational amenities while minimizing potential disruptions to the neighborhood.

The proposal features six pickleball courts alongside three tennis courts, creating a hub for both sports enthusiasts and casual players.

“The new rendering, developed through the mayor’s office, reflects much of what residents have been calling for, including a smaller footprint and more open space.” – (Famiglietti)

The inclusion of pickleball courts aims to meet the rising demand for this fast-paced, social sport in the community.

Listening to Community Voices

Residents expressed enthusiasm about the addition of pickleball courts, as the sport continues to attract players of all ages. However, they also voiced concerns about potential impacts from nearby athletic fields, such as increased traffic, noise, and parking issues in their residential neighborhood.

“Mayor Charles Lombardi heard residents at a previous meeting and took their comments into account as he moved in this ‘step in the right direction’ on a new plan.” Famiglietti emphasized, underlining the council’s commitment to community engagement.

Future Directions and Pickleball Potential

As plans evolve, Council President Dino Autiello reassured the community that further details are forthcoming, allowing residents to envision the final layout. He stated, “Specifics on the plans are all up for discussion,” encouraging community members to share their input on the pickleball initiative and other recreational features.

In response to environmental concerns, Famiglietti acknowledged the importance of ensuring that the construction process does not compromise local ecosystems.

The community is eager for open recreational spaces that include pickleball, and officials are optimistic that a similar plan will be drafted for the nearby Pate property, further enhancing opportunities for residents to engage in this beloved sport.
