A new competitive event is set to make waves in the pickleball community with the announcement of First Annual Women’s Only Team Pickleball Tournament. Scheduled for March 22-23, 2025, the event will take place at the Coronado Island Marriott Resort and Spa in Coronado, California. This event aims to promote female participation in pickleball while offering a fun and competitive environment.
Team Format and Divisions
The tournament will feature a team format consisting of four players per team, with divisions based on total combined DUPR (Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating) scores. This allows for a fair competition structure where teams can compete within their skill levels. The divisions include:
- All Ages Division
- Age 50+ Division
- DUPR 14 Division (maximum total DUPR score of 14.30)
- DUPR 16 Division (maximum total DUPR score of 16.30)
- DUPR 18 Division (maximum total DUPR score of 18.30)
- DUPR 20 Division (maximum total DUPR score of 20.99)
- DUPR 22 Division (unlimited)
Tournament Structure
Teams will compete in a single round robin format followed by playoffs. Each team will face every other team in their division once. The top four teams will advance to the semifinals, where winners will move to the gold medal match and losers to the bronze medal match. Matches will follow an MLP-style format with rally scoring to 21.
In case of a tie at 2-2 after the four doubles matches, a Singles Dreambreaker tiebreaker will determine the winner. Players will compete in singles matches until one team reaches 21 points, winning by two in playoff scenarios.
Awards and Prizes
The pickleball tournament will award medals through fourth place, with additional prizes and awards yet to be determined. Participants can look forward to exciting competitions, including accolades for Best Team Name and best uniforms.
Accommodation Options
Participants are encouraged to take advantage of the discounted room packages available at the Coronado Island Marriott Resort and Spa. This presents a great opportunity for players to stay close to the action while enjoying a beachside atmosphere.
The pickleball tournament, brought to life by the American Pickleball Association, aims to foster community and competition among women in the sport.
