Grand Mesa Picklers Plans New Pickleball Courts: Grand Mesa Picklers and the local school district are searching a potential partnership to address the community’s need for new pickleball and tennis courts in Cedaredge. Judy Weaver, representing the Cedaredge Recreation Advisory Committee and Grand Mesa Pickleball, brought forward this initiative at the recent Cedaredge Board of Trustees meeting. Accompanying Weaver were Cedaredge High School tennis coaches Haley Benson and Kayla Jubert.
During the meeting, Weaver highlighted discussions from a recent advisory committee meeting where the worsening condition of pickleball courts at Cedaredge Town Park due to water damage was addressed. Weaver introduced a promising opportunity presented by the Delta County School District to allocate land near the high school for new court construction.
“My purpose this evening is to remind this board of one important fact,At the March 7 board of trustees meeting, where it was decided they were going to build new courts, the following was decided: ‘It would be staff’s recommendation to pursue both the master plan recreation element and the tennis courts concurrently.”

Weaver mentioned the urgency in securing grants and funding by the fall to initiate construction by spring 2025, aligning with the community’s long term desire for upgraded facilities.
“The tennis and pickleball community are requesting that this board hold the course and move new courts forward now,We have been in conversation with boards since 2018 and are asking you to stand by your decisions so we don’t keep kicking this can down the road.”

During the meeting, Benson also voiced concerns about logistical challenges facing the Cedaredge tennis program, which currently shares courts at the town park. With only two courts available, Cedaredge cannot host matches or maintain court quality properly, worsened by recent safety issues due to vandalism. A dedicated court facility on school grounds would offer better control and maintenance.
“It’s been talked about for years, and it just kind of feels like it’s in this stalemate position,” Benson commented.
As the topic was not on the meeting agenda, detailed discussions could not take place, but outgoing Interim Town Administrator Mark Relph assured that a comprehensive report on the matter would soon be presented.
