Breanna Stewart Teases WNBA Drama Amid CBA Negotiations

New York Liberty guard Natasha Cloud recently voiced her frustration on social media regarding the stalled WNBA collective bargaining agreement (CBA) negotiations happening this spring. The ongoing talks, led by WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert and the players’ association, remain deadlocked over financial disagreements.

Cloud expressed concerns during a TikTok live session shared by a fan on X, explaining that each time the league returns with a new valuation, it increases, while the players’ worth and equity are being undervalued, deepening tensions in the negotiations.

“Every time that we keep coming back to the league, there’s a new estimate of the overall value of the league that keeps increasing,” Cloud said. “So you keep increasing, and then keep trying to literally depreciate our value, our equity, our finances within the business. It don’t make no sense.”

“I don’t want hear sh*t else about our league loses money, every professional league, every organization loses money somewhere. … So we’ll give you updates on the CBA when we get updates on the CBA, but for eight months, we have got no update.”

Cloud emphasized the players’ steadfastness in the face of prolonged talks, also revealing that details about the league’s current proposals remain confidential due to legal restrictions.

“If I didn’t sign the NDA, you all know I’ll f**king tell you. We can’t talk about this sh*t, I’m gonna get f**king sued.”

The main sticking point reportedly concerns the revenue-sharing structure, with the WNBA Players Association (WNBPA) pushing for up to a 30% revenue share, while the league’s latest offer falls short, reportedly not exceeding 15% of total revenue, according to insider Annie Costabile.

Natasha Cloud’s Season and Contribution to the Liberty

Cloud recently completed her first season with the New York Liberty after being traded from the Connecticut Sun ahead of the 2025 season. She averaged 10.1 points and 5.1 assists per game while shooting 43.3%, playing a vital role alongside Breanna Stewart and the rest of the team.

Despite a strong 27-17 regular season record, the Liberty were knocked out in the first round of the playoffs by the Phoenix Mercury, who went on to become WNBA finalists that year.

Breanna Stewart Prepares for Overseas Play Amid CBA Uncertainty

As WNBA CBA negotiations remain unsettled, star forward Breanna Stewart is set to compete overseas during the WNBA offseason. Stewart will participate in the 2026 EuroLeague Final Six from April 15 to 19, representing European club powerhouse Fenerbahçe Opet, who recently confirmed her participation.

The timing has raised eyebrows since the start of WNBA training camps is scheduled for April 19, coinciding with the championship games overseas. This overlap has fueled speculation among fans that Stewart may be signaling her concerns about the league’s current labor impasse.

Amid rumors of a possible lockout or strike, Stewart’s overseas commitment adds tension to the ongoing negotiations. As a two-time WNBA MVP and a vice president of the players’ association, she remains a central figure in pushing for improved terms.

Upcoming WNBA Season Hinges on CBA Progress

The WNBA’s 2026 campaign is slated to begin on May 8, but important league events need to take place beforehand, including expansion drafts for the new Toronto Tempo and Portland Fire franchises, the main rookie draft, and free agency activities.

With such a tight timeline, failure to resolve the collective bargaining issues could jeopardize these crucial steps and potentially delay the start of the season. The players’ and league’s ability to reach an agreement shortly will significantly shape the future direction of the league and its financial ecosystem.
