Naomi Osaka Honors Mom with Heartfelt Message on Women’s Day

Naomi Osaka secured her place in the fourth round of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells tournament by defeating Camila Osorio in a three-set match. Despite dropping the second set, the Japanese star regained momentum to finish strong in the third, advancing to the last 16. This progress highlights Osaka’s improving form at the event this year, reflecting her determination to build on previous performances.

Expressing Gratitude to Her Mother on International Women’s Day

During her on-court interview, Osaka took a moment to dedicate a special message to her mother, Tamaki, in celebration of International Women’s Day. She emphasized the significant role her mother has played throughout her life and career.

“For me, my mom. My mom is a really important figure in my life. I have grown up just seeing her do so many amazing things, and yeah, she is the first role model for me. So, I guess I want to thank her a lot,”

Osaka shared.

Overcoming Challenges and Gaining Confidence

Osaka reflected on the setbacks she encountered earlier in the season, including injuries that interrupted her training and competition schedule.

“I was just really disappointed in myself, and then ironically, like, we were training, and then I injured myself, like I did another injury. So I just felt, like, hopefully that’s enough injuries for the whole year,”

she said. Despite these hurdles, she acknowledged her progress at Indian Wells, noting that she has already surpassed her previous year’s results.

“Last year, I didn’t do too well here, so I think I have already exceeded the previous year. So I just hope that I can keep going,”

she added, signaling her hopeful outlook.

Upcoming Match Against World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka

Osaka is set to meet the world number one, Aryna Sabalenka, in the tournament’s fourth round. This will be only their second encounter, the first being at the 2018 US Open where Osaka won in three sets on her way to securing her first Grand Slam title. Sabalenka advanced to the round of 16 by defeating Jaqueline Cristian in straight sets, setting the stage for a highly anticipated showdown between two of women’s tennis’ top competitors.
