Alonso Coello Camarero (born 12 October 1999) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays for Toronto FC in Major League Soccer. He began his football career in Madrid, moving through various youth systems before making his way to college soccer at Florida Atlantic University. Early Life and Background
Alonso Coello Camarero was born in Madrid, Spain. He began playing football at the age of four with Madrid Sur de Vallecas and moved to the Atlético Madrid youth system at six, where he played for five years. Afterward, he joined the youth system of Rayo Vallecano, where he played until the age of 18. With the Rayo Vallecano Juvenil, he won the Copa Federación Nacional Juvenil, showcasing his early talent in the sport.
Path to Soccer
In 2018, Coello moved to the United States to attend Florida Atlantic University, where he played for the men’s soccer team. He joined through the La Liga ProPlayer initiative, a program that allows players from academy teams in Spain to play college soccer in the U.S. while earning a university degree. At Florida Atlantic University, he studied economics and made a significant impact on the soccer field, scoring his first goal on 19 October 2018 against the FIU Panthers. During his freshman season, he led the team with four assists and earned recognition on the C-USA All-Conference Third Team and the C-USA All-Freshman Team.

Early Career (2019-2021)
Coello began his professional career in 2019 with the Dalton Red Wolves in USL League Two. In 2022, he signed a professional contract with Toronto FC II in MLS Next Pro, making his debut on April 3 against FC Cincinnati 2. He scored his first professional goal on 8 May, converting a penalty kick against New York City FC II. Coello served as team captain, playing a team-high 2,189 minutes in 25 appearances during the season.
Breakthrough (2023-Present)
In March 2023, Coello joined the Toronto FC first team on a short-term loan ahead of a match against the San Jose Earthquakes. He made his Major League Soccer debut on 25 March 2023, starting the match against San Jose and playing the full 90 minutes. Following his impressive performances, he signed a permanent contract with Toronto FC for the 2023 season, with club options for 2024 and 2025. In his rookie season, he made 21 league appearances, including 17 starts, and on 19 June 2024, he scored his first MLS goal in a match against Nashville SC. In January 2025, he signed a three-year extension with the club through 2027, with an option for 2028.
