Early Life and Background

Arella Guirantes was born in Long Island, New York. She attended Bellport High School, where she excelled in basketball, scoring over 2,000 points and earning a spot on the New York State Sportswriters Association All-State First Team. Guirantes averaged an impressive 33 points, 13 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 3 steals, and 2.6 blocks per game while attending IMG Academy. Her talent was recognized nationally, as she was rated the #44 player in the nation by ProspectNation and the #17 wing player in the 2016 class by Hoopgurlz. Guirantes’ early exposure to basketball laid a strong foundation for her future career.

Path to Basketball

Following her successful high school career, Arella Guirantes committed to playing for the Texas Tech Lady Raiders. During her freshman year, she was second on the team in scoring, averaging 9.9 points per game and starting 27 out of 29 games. She was recognized as Freshman of the Week in the Big 12 Conference. After her freshman year, Guirantes transferred to Rutgers University, where she faced the challenge of sitting out a season due to NCAA transfer rules. Upon her return to the court, she made a significant impact, averaging 12.1 points and 4.3 rebounds in her first season with the Scarlet Knights.

Arella Guirantes was selected as the 22nd overall pick in the second round of the 2021 WNBA draft by the Los Angeles Sparks. She made the Sparks roster for her rookie season, where she averaged 3.2 points per game. Despite her efforts, she was waived by the Sparks after the 2022 training camp.

Breakthrough (2022-2023)

Following her time with the Los Angeles Sparks, Guirantes joined Budivelnyk for the 2021-2022 season, where she continued to develop her skills. She then played for Diósgyőri VTK in the 2022-2023 season, further establishing her presence in the sport. On February 6, 2023, she signed a training camp contract with the Seattle Storm, making the roster for the 2023 season. However, she was waived by the Storm on June 29, 2023.
