Cameron Johnston was born in Geelong, Victoria, Australia. He attended St Joseph’s College in Newtown, Victoria, where he began to develop his skills in football. Johnston played for the Geelong Falcons in the under-18 TAC Cup, showcasing his talent before being drafted to the Melbourne Football Club with the 63rd selection in the 2011 AFL rookie draft. As a midfielder, he spent the 2011 season playing for the Casey Scorpions, Melbourne’s affiliate team in the Victorian Football League (VFL). However, Johnston faced challenges in breaking into the senior team, managing only six games and spending most of the season in the VFL reserves. Cameron Johnston entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent, signing with the Philadelphia Eagles on 11 May 2017. After being waived in September, he signed a reserve/future contract with the Eagles in January 2018. Johnston made the Eagles’ 53-man roster for the 2018 season and made his NFL debut in the season opener against the Atlanta Falcons, where he recorded six punts for 313 net yards. His first season concluded with 61 total punts for 2,937 yards, and he demonstrated his skill by punting within the 20-yard line 24 times. In 2019, Johnston continued to impress, punting 71 times for 3,292 yards, and in 2020, he was re-signed to a one-year contract, where he recorded his highest punting yards with the Eagles at 3,318.
