Carsen Twarynski was born on November 24, 1997, in St. Albert, Alberta, Canada. He grew up in a family that valued athletics, with his older brother Brayden also pursuing sports, having played as a linebacker for the Saskatchewan Huskies. This environment fostered Twarynski’s early interest in hockey.

Twarynski began his hockey journey with Calgary’s Bow Valley Hockey Association, progressing through various youth teams. He played with the Blackfoot Chiefs Minor Hockey Association Pee-Wee team before moving on to the Calgary Bantam AAA Blackhawks and the Calgary Bantam AAA Bisons. After going undrafted in the WHL bantam draft, he spent a season with the Okotoks Oilers in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) and the Calgary Buffaloes in the Alberta Midget Hockey League (AMHL) before joining the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League (WHL) as a 16-year-old.

Path to Hockey

During his time with the Calgary Hitmen, Twarynski made a significant impact, recording his first WHL goal in a game against the Lethbridge Hurricanes on September 29, 2014. In his draft year, he scored 20 goals and accumulated 45 points, showcasing his skills as a power forward. His performance earned him the attention of NHL scouts, leading to his selection by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2016 NHL entry draft.

After two successful seasons with the Hitmen, Twarynski was traded to the Kelowna Rockets, where he continued to develop his game. Following the conclusion of his junior career, he signed an entry-level contract with the Flyers on March 11, 2018, marking the beginning of his professional journey.

Early Career (2018–2019)

Carsen Twarynski began his professional career with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers. He attended the Flyers’ training camp for the 2018–19 season and was assigned to the Phantoms to start the season. On October 4, 2019, he made his NHL debut in Prague, Czech Republic, during the NHL Global Series. Although he primarily played with the Phantoms during the 2019–20 season, he was included in the Flyers’ training camp for the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs.

Breakthrough (2021–2023)

On July 21, 2021, Carsen Twarynski was selected by the Seattle Kraken in the 2021 NHL expansion draft. After his time with the Kraken, he faced challenges securing a contract in North America. However, on September 27, 2023, he signed with the Vienna Capitals in Austria’s ICE Hockey League, marking his first contract abroad. During the 2023–24 season with the Capitals, he made a notable contribution, scoring six goals and recording 13 points in 27 regular season games.

Twarynski’s journey continued as he transitioned back to North America, signing with the Bridgeport Islanders, the AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, on January 8, 2024. Following his stint with Bridgeport, he signed a one-year contract with the Abbotsford Canucks for the 2024–25 season, where he made 26 regular season appearances, scoring two goals and registering seven points before being traded to the San Diego Gulls on March 11, 2025.
