Colin White Bio
Colin Andrew White is an American professional ice hockey center for the San Jose Barracuda of the American Hockey League (AHL) while under contract to the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected in the first round, 21st overall, by the Ottawa Senators in the 2015 NHL entry draft. White has also previously played for the Florida Panthers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Montreal Canadiens.
Early Life and Background
Colin White was born on January 30, 1997, in Hanover, Massachusetts, to parents Mark and Christine. His father played collegiate football and track and field at Georgia Tech, while his mother played tennis at Florida State University. White began ice skating after his sister had her eighth birthday party at an ice rink. Growing up, he was a fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins, and his favorite player was Mario Lemieux. White attended Noble and Greenough School, where he played high school ice hockey.
Path to Hockey
Colin White joined the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (U.S. NTDP) after high school. He played in the United States Hockey League (USHL) during the 2013–14 and 2014–15 seasons. His performance earned him an invitation to the 2014 CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game. In his final season with the U.S. NTDP, White recorded 17 points in 20 games. He then played college ice hockey at Boston College from 2015 to 2017, where he scored his first collegiate hat-trick on January 8, 2016, against Providence College. In 2015–16, he was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team.

Early Career (2017–2018)
Colin White was selected by the Ottawa Senators in the first round, 21st overall, in the 2015 NHL entry draft. Following the 2016–17 NCAA season, he signed an amateur tryout with the Senators’ AHL affiliate, the Binghamton Senators, on March 26, 2017. He recorded three points in three games before signing a three-year, entry-level contract with the Senators on April 2, 2017. White made his NHL debut the following day in a game against the Detroit Red Wings. He split his first professional season between Ottawa and Binghamton, recording his first career NHL goal on February 6, 2018, against the New Jersey Devils. He finished his first season in Ottawa with six points in 21 games.
Breakthrough (2018–2022)
In his first full season with the Ottawa Senators, Colin White recorded 14 goals and 41 points in 71 games. On August 21, 2019, the Senators signed him to a six-year, $28.5 million contract extension. However, on October 5, 2021, White sustained an upper-body injury during a pre-season game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, which required shoulder surgery and sidelined him for several months. He returned in the 2021–22 season, recording three goals and ten points in 24 games. On July 5, 2022, White was placed on unconditional waivers by the Senators and subsequently bought out from the remaining three years of his contract.
Notable Works and Milestones
Colin White’s signature work includes his contributions to Team USA in international competitions, where he helped secure gold medals at the IIHF World U17 Championships and IIHF World U18 Championships. He also played a key role in Team USA’s bronze medal win at the IIHF World Junior Championships in 2016 and 2017.
