Early Life and Background

Cooper Hummel was born on November 28, 1994, in Lake Oswego, Oregon. He attended Lakeridge High School, where he was a member of the Lake Oswego Little League team that advanced to the U.S. semifinals of the 2007 Little League World Series. After high school, Hummel went on to play college baseball at the University of Portland for three seasons, where he developed his skills and prepared for a professional career.

Path to Baseball

Hummel was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 18th round of the 2016 Major League Baseball draft. He made his professional debut with the rookie-level Helena Brewers. In 2017, he played for the High-A Carolina Mudcats, where he showed promise by slashing .244/.368/.381 in 59 games. The following year, he returned to Carolina and improved his performance, posting a .260 batting average with 8 home runs and 50 runs batted in (RBI) over 103 games. In 2019, Hummel played 121 games for the Double-A Biloxi Shuckers, achieving career-highs with 17 home runs and 56 RBI.

Hummel’s early career began with the Milwaukee Brewers, where he made significant strides in the minor leagues. He played for various teams within the Brewers organization, including the Helena Brewers, Carolina Mudcats, and Biloxi Shuckers. His performance in the minors earned him a trade to the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 28, 2021. Hummel finished the 2021 season with the Triple-A Reno Aces, batting .353 with 6 home runs and 37 RBI in just 46 games.

Breakthrough (2022-2023)

Hummel made his MLB debut on April 7, 2022, as a pinch hitter for the Diamondbacks. He recorded his first career hit and home run just a few days later against the San Diego Padres. In his rookie season, Hummel appeared in 66 games, achieving a batting average of .176 with three home runs and 17 RBI. On November 17, 2022, he was traded to the Seattle Mariners, where he spent most of the 2023 season with the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers, hitting .262 with 8 home runs and 47 RBI.
