Early Life and Background

Davis Mills was born on October 21, 1998, in Atlanta, Georgia. He attended Greater Atlanta Christian School in Norcross, Georgia, where he excelled in football. During his high school career, Mills threw for 6,290 yards and 66 touchdowns, earning recognition as a five-star recruit and ranking as the top quarterback in his class. He committed to Stanford University to play college football, where he would further develop his skills and showcase his talent.

Path to American Football

Mills redshirted his freshman year for the Stanford Cardinal in 2017. In 2018, he appeared in one game as a backup to K. J. Costello. Mills entered the 2019 season as a backup but started six of eight games after Costello was injured. He set a school record with 504 passing yards in a game against Washington State. Mills completed the 2019 season with 1,960 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He played five games during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, completing 129-of-195 passes for 1,508 yards, seven touchdowns, and three interceptions. Early Career (2021)

Mills was selected 67th overall by the Houston Texans in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft. He signed a four-year rookie contract worth $5.2 million with the Texans on May 26, 2021. Due to the incumbent starting quarterback Deshaun Watson being ruled inactive, Mills was named the second option behind Tyrod Taylor. He made his NFL debut during Week 2 against the Cleveland Browns, throwing for 102 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Mills made his starting debut against the Carolina Panthers, passing for 168 yards and a touchdown in a 24–9 loss. In Week 5 against the New England Patriots, he completed 21-of-29 passes for 312 yards and three touchdowns.

Breakthrough (2021-2022)

Mills was named the Texans’ starter for the 2022 season after Watson was traded to the Cleveland Browns. In Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts, he completed 23 of 37 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns in a 20–20 tie. However, after a five-game losing streak, Mills was benched in favor of Kyle Allen for Week 12. He returned as the starter later in the season and led the Texans to a thrilling victory over the Colts, completing a touchdown pass in the final moments of the game. Mills finished his second professional season with 3,118 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions.
