Frank Darby grew up in Jersey City, New Jersey, where he attended Lincoln High School. During his senior year, he was named first-team All-State after achieving impressive statistics, including 35 receptions for 957 yards and 10 touchdowns on offense, along with 27 tackles, one interception, and three forced fumbles on defense. Rated as a three-star recruit, Darby initially committed to play college football at Iowa. However, after not qualifying to sign with Iowa due to a low SAT score, he opted to attend Arizona State University, turning down offers from Rutgers and Boston College.

At Arizona State, Frank Darby redshirted his true freshman season. He made a notable impact during his redshirt sophomore season, finishing with 21 catches for 421 yards and two touchdowns. Frank Darby was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft with the 187th overall pick. He signed a four-year rookie contract with the Falcons on June 15, 2021. His first career reception came on November 14, 2021, when he caught a 14-yard pass from quarterback Josh Rosen during a game against the Dallas Cowboys. In August 2022, he was waived by the Falcons but was re-signed to their practice squad shortly after. He was promoted to the active roster on November 23, 2022.
