Germain Ifedi was born in Houston, Texas. He attended Westside High School, where he excelled as a three-sport athlete, participating in football, basketball, and track. Ifedi earned second-team All-State honors from the Associated Press and recorded an impressive 96 pancake blocks during his senior year. His high school team, the Westside Wolves, had a successful season, finishing with a 10–4 record and reaching the UIL 5A Division II Regional Final. Ifedi was regarded as a four-star recruit by 247Sports and ESPN, ranking as the No. 13 offensive guard prospect in his class. Ifedi later attended Texas A&M University, where he played for the Texas A&M Aggies.

After redshirting his first year at Texas A&M, Germain Ifedi made an immediate impact by starting all 13 games at right guard in 2013. Germain Ifedi was selected in the first round with the 31st overall pick by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2016 NFL Draft. He became the fourth consecutive Texas A&M offensive lineman to be drafted in the first round. Ifedi signed a four-year contract worth $8.27 million, which included a $4.2 million signing bonus. He made his NFL debut on October 2, 2016, against the New York Jets, starting in 13 regular season games and both playoff games during his rookie season. In 2017, Ifedi started all 16 games but led the league in penalties. He continued to be a reliable player for the Seahawks, starting 15 games in 2018 and all 16 games in 2019, contributing significantly to the team’s offensive line.
