He attended Harvard-Westlake School, where he showcased his talent as a pitcher and played shortstop and third base for the varsity baseball team throughout his high school years. Under the guidance of his pitching coach, Ethan Katz, Flaherty developed his skills and became a standout player. His high school career included a remarkable 13-0 record with a 0.63 earned run average (ERA) during his junior year, striking out 112 batters in 89 innings.
