Early Life and Background

Jamar Summers was born in Orange, New Jersey, where he grew up and attended Orange High School. During his high school years, he showcased his athletic talent, particularly in football. After graduating, he spent a year at Milford Academy in New Berlin, New York, which helped him further develop his skills. Summers was rated a three-star recruit by Rivals.com and a two-star recruit by ESPN, ultimately committing to play college football at the University of Connecticut.

Path to American Football

At the University of Connecticut, Jamar Summers played all twelve games as a true freshman, starting the final five of the season. His performance continued to improve during his sophomore year, where he started twelve of thirteen games, recording eight interceptions and 39 tackles. This impressive season earned him first-team All-American Athletic Conference honors. In his junior year, he played both cornerback and safety, recording two interceptions and 59 tackles, along with an 86-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown. By his senior year, he recorded a career-high 63 tackles and one interception, solidifying his reputation as a formidable player.

Early Career (2018)

After going undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft, Jamar Summers signed as an undrafted free agent with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He participated in all four preseason games, allowing three receptions with two pass breakups on ten targets. However, he was cut before the regular season began. Following his time with the Steelers, Summers joined the Birmingham Iron in the Alliance of American Football (AAF) in October 2018. In his debut against the Memphis Express, he allowed one reception for -2 yards, along with one interception and one pass breakup on three targets. His performance earned him recognition, and he was named Week 2 AAF Special Teams Player of the Week.

Breakthrough (2019-2020)

After the AAF ceased operations in April 2019, Jamar Summers signed with the Miami Dolphins on May 12, 2019, but was waived shortly after. He then signed with the Detroit Lions on August 12, 2019, but was also waived during final roster cuts. In 2020, Summers was drafted in the first round during phase four of the XFL draft by the New York Guardians. Unfortunately, his contract was terminated when the league suspended operations in April 2020.
